  • The Goonies (1985)

    1h 54mins

    8/10

    Rewatch

    “Goonies never say die!”

What an epic, magical childhood adventure story! A classic favourite.

Love all the old sets that add to the magic.

A gripping treasure hunt story, led by child actors who capture your imagination on this adventure, showing how great their performances are, which I feel is not always the case when the main cast are children.

A lovely story of friendship and good overcoming evil.

Have watched this too many times to count, but always enjoy it!

    Sweet easy to watch film

Loved the character of Mrs. Harris, she was such a sweetheart.

A film that leaves you feeling warm inside afterwards.

Loved seeing all the fashions shots with the Dior designs.

A film about staying true to yourself.

  • Return to Oz (1985)

    1h 53mins

    7/10

    Rewatch

This is a nostalgic one for me as it was my first film experience of the land of Oz. I only realised in this viewing that it is a combination of two other Oz books “The Marvelous Land of Oz” and “Ozma of Oz”.

I remember the looks I would receive when people would talk about “The Wizard of Oz” and I would add in “ah yeah, and then they send Dorothy off for electroshock therapy to stop talking about her time in Oz”. Most people would respond with some variation of “what messed up version of Oz have you been watching?!”

Watching it now I can take in how creepy it is and I would say far scarier than the original Wizard of Oz, but I still watch it with a fond nostalgia. Had not taken in as a child that it was a Disney.

  • The Wizard of Oz (1939)

    1h 42mins

    6/10

    Rewatch

    Sweet family classic

I think this might be my second time watching this all the way through. Knew the story as a child, just hadn’t watched it until I was an adult.

    Love the transition into Oz.

Great songs and dance sequences. Love the old time musical numbers.

  • Nosferatu (2024)

    2h 12mins

    5/10

First time watch in the cinema

Loved the look of this film. Lots of stunning shots. Beautiful costumes.

I found it more “eww gross” uncomfortable than scary.

Good performances all around, just not my kind of film.

I’m not a big fan of horror films. The horror films I usually enjoy watching are those from the 70s, like Carrie (1976), where I enjoy the old look of the films and it helps to add that distance from reality for me not to get too creeped out.

    Would not watch again.

  • We Live In Time (2024)

    1h 47mins

    5/10

First time watch in the cinema

    Emotional romance

I usually don’t mind films hopping about different points of time, but I found this more jarring in the film than helping with the story telling.

I also found the ending frustrating which left me in a “meh” mood as I left the cinema which took away from the bits I had liked during the film.

Enjoyed both Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield in it, but just felt the story wasn’t for me.
