  • Alice, Darling (2022)

    1h 29mins

    7/10

    First time watch

I like how they handled the difficult topic of abuse in this film. I felt that they were showing the subtleties that can go unnoticed. That thinking something feels off but not being 100% so not knowing whether to say anything.

There was something quite soft and beautiful about this film.

  • Wicked (2024)

    5th time watched in cinema

I felt like I came floating out of the cinema the first time I saw this. I felt so light and full of joy.

I held off going to see it for a while where it had been so hyped and I love the theatre show (seen 4 times). I always have lots of reservations about anything I love being remade as I am not a fan of change. I went to see it by myself so that I could leave if I was hating it and not worrying about the opinions of anyone with me.

Within the first few minutes I knew this was not going to be a problem. I felt the goosebumps creep up my arms and spread up my neck. I was hooked into the magical world of Oz. The music was beautiful, singing epic, dancing fantastic, sets mesmerising, costumes stunning and acting superb.

I cried multiple times as I was pulled in and swept away in this beautiful story.

It stayed pretty true to the original musical, no changes that made me recoil with it being “too different!”.

I loved how grand it was and all the musical numbers having the epic scale like old musicals do.

My only complaint is that I have to wait until November for the second half, Wicked For Good.

I wish I could give this film a hug for all the joy it has brought me.

I’m still listening to the soundtrack on repeat.

  • The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (2005)

    Rewatch

A long time favourite of mine. A fab 00’s chick flick that I will continue to watch over and over again.

I love following the 4 different friends stories of self discovery while spending their time apart over a summer. There is love, laughter, grief and self growth. Leaves me feeling fuzzy and warm.

  • The Substance (2024)

    2h 20mins

    8/10

    Rewatch

    I love this film.

I do have to hide behind my hands for some of it as I’m pretty squeamish, but willing to do that to watch the film.

It does an excellent job at making you feel uncomfortable.

I think Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley are fantastic in this film!

Very thought provoking film. Thinking about how aging as a woman is attached to our value/worth in society and the lengths people are willing to go to avoid it.

I find the last 25 minutes utterly chaotic which is a great climax to the film.

  • O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000)

    1h 46mins

    4/10

    Rewatch

I like a lot of Coen Brothers films, but I found this one a bit boring.

I know I have watched it before, but I feel like I must have fallen asleep during my first watch as the ending felt completely unfamiliar to me.

I enjoyed their song and a few other moments, but this isn’t really for me.

  • Muriel’s Wedding (1994)

    1h 46mins

    4/10

    First time watch

Have seen this film around but have never known what it was about, so went into it blind.

It’s probably more a 2-3/10, but I really liked Toni Collette and Rachel Griffiths in it.

A film about friendship and finding yourself. Muriel (Toni Collette) is desperate to prove that she is “not nothing” as she feels all those around her consider her to be. Muriel befriends the awesome Rhonda (Rachel Griffiths) and hopes to change how she is perceived.

I feel that Muriel’s character stays pretty unlikeable throughout, but I continued to love Rhonda.

I love the comedy in this film! It has me cracking up throughout. Extremely quotable!

A lovely story showing the importance of being good, kind and true to yourself even when tested. Seeing others for who they really are.

  • The Goonies (1985)

    1h 54mins

    8/10

    Rewatch

    “Goonies never say die!”

What an epic, magical childhood adventure story! A classic favourite.

Love all the old sets that add to the magic.

A gripping treasure hunt story, led by child actors who capture your imagination on this adventure, showing how great their performances are, which I feel is not always the case when the main cast are children.

A lovely story of friendship and good overcoming evil.

Have watched this too many times to count, but always enjoy it!
