    Suspenseful – Horror – Artistic

Hoping to escape their troubled past, twin brothers return to their hometown for a fresh start, only to find a darker force is waiting to welcome them back.

The visual aesthetic of this film is stunning and I loved the music.

It felt very much like a newer From Dusk Till Dawn (1996) vibe.

I enjoyed all of the performances.

It’s not a film that leaves you guessing where you can see where it’s going, but you are kept engaged by all the different relationships and bonds between the characters.

Fantasy – Family Film – Quest

Young Sarah embarks on a surreal journey through a magical maze to rescue her baby brother from the Goblin King.

I feel sorry for anyone who has missed out on the magic of Labyrinth.

What more could you want from a children’s fantasy adventure film?!

A magical story of conquering both physical and emotional demons that help you to unlock the best version of yourself – Tick!

Amazing directing and puppetry of the incredibly talented Jim Henson – Tick!

Musical masterpieces by the legend David Bowie as the alluring and mystical Goblin King – Tick!

    What more could you want?!

This film is like a big nostalgic hug that I adore snuggling up to.

Actually, if you haven’t seen Labyrinth yet, maybe I am excited for you to get to experience it for the first time.

Family Fun – Adventure – Comedy

Paddington and the Brown family travel to Peru to visit Aunt Lucy, only to find she has mysteriously gone missing, sending them on an adventure deep into the jungle to find her.

I am a late comer to the Paddington films, where I watched the first two for the first time in the past 2-3 years and what heartwarming little gems they are!

While this third instalment still holds all the family fun of it’s predecessors and I did find it an enjoyable easy watch, I can’t quite put my finger on why it does not hold the same magical, uplifting, warm hug giving quality as the first two did for me.

    Heartfelt – Comedy – Relationships

A heartfelt comedy about a passionate chef who, after losing his way as the head chef at a prestigious LA restaurant, quits his job and rediscovers his creativity and family connection on a cross-country food truck journey.

This film brings me so much joy! It is like tucking into your favourite, most delicious comfort food.

I love watching all the relationships grow on screen. Seeing that lovely little boy desperately wanting his father to want to spend time with him and then falling into a situation where this can develop.

Watching the power of friendship and surrounding yourself with people who believe in you.

Seeing someone’s passion for life reignite and that positive energy flow back into the relationships they may have once taken for granted while locked in a cage of their own creation.

Warning! – Do not watch this when you’re hungry! You will find yourself salivating at the delicious dishes being paraded around on the screen in front of you.

The soundtrack is phenomenal too! Makes me smile as soon as it starts playing.

Feel Good – Coming of Age – Comedy

When Saraya (Florence Pugh) gets the opportunity of a lifetime to pursue her dream of becoming a WWE star, she soon realises that achieving it is far more challenging than it seems.

I was unsure how I was going to take this film as I’m not a huge sports fan and know pretty much nothing about wrestling, apart from the TV show Glow (2017-19) What a series! Still upset that it didn’t get its final season. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how invested into the story I became. Although it is heavily based around wrestling, I feel the real focus is on family, staying true to yourself and living your life trying to be the best you.

A nice easy watch with plenty of funny moments, as well as some touching scenes.

Comedy – Slapstick – Coming of Age

Four friends jet off to Malia a lads holiday after their A-levels and seem to continue making one hilarious mistake after another.

You don’t put this on for a movie masterpiece. It is a silly bit of fun that makes me laugh. Many head in my hands moments of “I can’t believe they’re doing that”, but then think, I bet there are teen boys who have done this/similar!

My favourite part is their dancing across the nightclub!

An easy watch if you fancy a giggle. If you’ve seen the show and liked it, you’re bound to find this tickles your funny bone too.

    Musical – Nostalgic – Magical

The last surviving heir of the Russian royal family finds herself in the company of two con men on a thrilling journey to be reunited with her grandmother, but will she succeed when the vengeful, undead Rasputin will stop at nothing to destroy her.

Oh my goodness I love this film!

It’s dreamy beautiful songs! Instant goosebumps as soon as “Once Upon a December” starts.

The illustrations are just so gorgeous and yummy and warm. There is just so much detail in the background images. Stunning!

I do not know a single girl who has seen this and doesn’t long for her blue dress when she goes to watch the ballet.

There’s music, drama, comedy, romance, adventure, fantasy, what’s not to love! A fabulously rewatchable animation.

    Horror – Gory – Creepy

A young man visits the father he hasn’t seen in 30 years, after receiving an unexpected letter from him, but the heartfelt reunion he imagined does not unfold the way he had hoped.

I feel misled by the description of this film as a comedy horror, as where was the comedy?!

To be fair, I completely missed it being rated a 18, which might have given me a clue that it was going to be more on the horror end of the spectrum.

I am not a gory horror fan and this was too violent for me. Hid behind my hands a lot.

I probably should have turned it off, but I thought it was going in a different direction and once the yucky violence started I had gone past half way and thought I should just finish it. Lots of clock watching towards the end wanting it to be over.

Didn’t feel like there was a gripping storyline in there either, even if I try and ignore my squeamishness around gore.

    Hilarious – Parody – Mysterious

When high-achieving London police sergeant Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg) is transferred to a quiet country village, he believes his days of crime-fighting action are behind him, until he discovers that all is not as idyllic as it seems in this peaceful countryside.

This script is so clever and hilarious, there are just so many amazing lines.

I am usually sceptical when there are so many big names in one film, but I love all the cameos in Hot Fuzz. It feels surprising so many said yes to such short amounts of screen time.

As well as being out loud funny, I think the storyline is really clever and I remember being surprised by the ending the first time I watched it.

If you want an intriguing crime story as well as a giggle this is the perfect film for you.
